LA MESA DAM WATERSHED TREE PLANTING ACTIVITY - JUNE 28, 2003

As part of MPS's continued community service, another hectare of lot was adopted at La Mesa Watershed last June 28, 2003 (Saturday) in cooperation with the ABS-CBN Bantay Kalikasan Foundation, Inc. A total of 400 assorted non-fruit bearing trees (of Philippine species) were planted by PMCP and MEPCO Santa Rosa including PCIP Calamba employees.

The 250 hectares named "Pangarap" area where MPS adopted a hectare of lot last June 2002, was again this year's tree planting site. It was planted last year with assorted trees consisting of mahogany, narra and cupang trees. And this year, it was planted with more variety of non-fruit bearing trees and was again opened for new sponsors/adopters.

Mr. R.Enriquez, Mr. D.Deveza and Mr. R.Dela Torre having their experience of planting trees. The activity started at around 10:00 am with a short briefing / orientation by Ms. Marnie Alvez of ABS-CBN Bantay Kalikasan regarding the objectives and plans of their project denominated as "Save the La Mesa Watershed Project". Aside from the said project, she also explained the other existing projects being initiated by the Bantay Kalikasan Foundation Inc. namely: "Bantay Basura", "Bantay Usok" and "Bantay Baterya", where MPS also had participated. Mr. Jules Penales also of the same foundation, shared his knowledge regarding the existing ecosystem in the Philippines. He discussed the different ecosystem, namely: forest, agriculture, urban, coastal marine and fresh water. He emphasized on the importance of each ecosystem and their interrelation with each other in order for the environment to be complete and worth living in.

The activity was fully supported again by the management and staff of PMCP and MEPCO including PCIP. A total of forty-three (43) employees attended the activitiy and had their own experience of planting trees.

After all the participants had their lunch the activity was completed at around 2:00 pm.
